How much soil do I need per Subpod? For a pre-made garden? What is the minimum amount of soil? What is the minimum size garden bed?
You have a few of choices to choose from.
1) You can dig the Subpod directly into the ground up to the bottom of the ventilation panel, making sure to loosen the soil around the outside of the Subpod (up to about 30 cm or 1 foot perimeter around the Subpod) to help the worms move easily in and out into the surrounding soil and enrich the soil more efficiently or locate it within an existing raised garden bed.
2) In a newly built raised garden bed, a good minimum size that will also provide some food growing space is 90 cm/3 feet wide by 1.5 meters/5 feet long. If the sides of the garden bed are just over 30 cm /1 foot cm high, this will take about ¾ of a cubic meter/ 1 cubic yard of soil.
3) For the Subpod Grow Bed on our website which is 90cm/ 3 feet long x 120 cm wide x 45 high, after subtracting the volume occupied by the Subpod in the bed, you will need 0.35 cubic meters of soil. More precisely, 340 Litres or about 7 x 50L bags of garden soil. In US measures, this is 359 quarts or a little less than 15 x 25 quart bags.
