What are your recommendations for extreme heat and sun? Temperatures above 40 °C/104 °F, etc? Is the lid/seat insulated? We have hot summers (40 °C/104 °F + days/25deg+ nights) and I wondered if the worms would survive in a subpod in this heat.

The Subpod lid is insulated which helps to keep out the direct heat from the sun.  Additionally, to keep your worms the happiest, we recommend installing your Subpod in a shady/partly shady location which will help to keep your Subpod from overheating.

If you do not have a shady spot, you can install a shade cloth over your Subpod to prevent excess direct heat/sun from getting into your Subpod:

In extreme heat circumstances, you have the choice to put your Subpod in a raised garden bed which will be a few degrees warmer that the safest choice; which is directly in the ground (the more soil surrounding the Subpod, the more insulated from outside temperatures).

Keeping the worm blanket wet/moist will also help to keep your Subpod cool.
