What is the divider in the Subpod for? Why is there a divider in the Subpod?

The Subpod Divider has a few functions:
  1. If adding food waste frequently (every 2-3 days), by alternating which side the food is added, this minimizes disturbing the worms.  Some composting worm species, such as Indian blues (perionyx excavatus) are more sensitive to being disturbed than others, such as tiger worms (eisenia fetida).
  2. When the system is getting full, stop feeding one side.  After 2 weeks, most of the worms have now moved to the other side where the food is added.  This allows you to easily harvest the castings from the unfed side without having to separate worms from castings.
  3. The divider is used so you can add things like onions, and the worms go to the other side until the onions have off-gassed.  This is different to other compost and worm farm systems.
  4. The arm that props the lid open fastens to the the Subpod Divider.  This keeps any wind from slamming the lid shut while working in the Subpod.
